the naughty bits

I don’t know about y’all, but to me, some of the best bits of romance novels are the naughtiest ones! What could be better than reading about two people struggling to find their way to each other emotionally first finding their way physically? Sex scenes play a powerful role in developing relationships on – and off! – the page, and I’m super excited to be part of a competition that celebrates exactly that.

In a moment of potential insanity given the competitors in contests past, I’ve entered Nix’s infamous Sex Scene Championship for 2017! I’m up against a fearsome m/m scene penned by a previous competitor, but I’d appreciate your votes nonetheless. The polls close on Thursday at 4 PM GMT (5 PM in South Africa, 2 PM on the East Coast), oh, and you can enter to win prizes! Go forth and click to vote for Oz and Kate from Defending Hearts!

ten

Hello faithful readers! Today is a big day, and I’m excited to share a few milestones.

First and foremost, today marks 10 years as an expat! Ten years ago today I shut the door on my Greenwich Village apartment in New York City for the last time, took a cab to JFK and boarded a flight to London. My plan was to spend the year it would take for me to complete my MA in the UK, and maybe another year if I found a good job, as my degree entitled me to a one-year work visa. I ended up staying for six years before embarking on my second expat adventure: South Africa.

Unlike my solo shift to the UK, I made the jump down to SA with my then-fiance. Since our arrival in 2013 we’ve gotten married, bought a house, and expanded to become a family of three. My two-year-old daughter is definitely the best souvenir from our time here.

Now, a decade after expatriating, I’m taking the first steps toward another milestone: repatriating. My husband’s company has offered him an exciting new job based in Houston, and we’ll be landing there in November.

I have so many mixed emotions when it comes to this move, and they’re all about leaving South Africa – I haven’t even begun to process the Stateside stuff. South Africa is a complex, fraught, wonderful place and I’m torn between relief at leaving the worst bits and abject despair at saying goodbye to the best bits. Overwhelmingly, though, I’m grateful to have had four years in a place unique in the world, at the tail end of a misunderstood continent. My worldview is richer, more nuanced, and forever changed.

DefendingHearts_RebeccaCrowleyAnd in the midst of all of this, tomorrow sees the release of my tenth book! Defending Hearts hits digital bookshelves tomorrow and I hope Kate and Oz will find their way into readers’ hearts with the same stubborn insistence they found their way into mine.

Opposites attract with unparalleled force when Oz – Skyline’s neurotic, intellectual, and incidentally Muslim left-back – meets Kate, a private security contractor who’s recently said goodbye to life as an enlisted Army soldier. This book is about identity as we define it – and as others sometimes insist on defining it for us. Full buy links are on the Books page, and I hope you’ll check this one out!

Huge thanks to you, readers, for propelling me through to this ten-book milestone. I promise there will be many more!

Thunder Running out today!

ThunderRunningHappy September! Today marks the end of the Homefront Trilogy re-release as THUNDER RUNNING hits digital shelves. Authors – like parents – aren’t supposed to have favorites but, full disclosure, Chance and Tara are high on my list. These two messy people find imperfect perfection with each other, and I just love them.

THUNDER RUNNING is a mere $0.99 at reputable retailers: http://amzn.to/2gIjPOo

Alive Day available for pre-order

The re-releases roll on, and Alive Day – Book #2 of the Homefront Trilogy – is now available for pre-order, arriving on your Kindle on 1st August.

Meanwhile Boots on the Ground is still $0.99 until Alive Day hits digital shelves, so you still have time to grab it for less than a dollar!

Homefront Trilogy homecoming

Samhain Publishing’s closure earlier this year meant a number of my books with them became unavailable. Having never ventured into self-publishing – and being a technophobe – I was nervous about whether I’d ever get those titles back into circulation.

Thankfully I have a friend in the brilliant Romy Sommer! Romy has recently started up her own business as a writing coach, and I jumped at the chance to be one of her first clients. With her expert help (and gentle prodding), I’m pleased to announce the Homefront Trilogy will be re-releasing over the next three months.

Originally released in 2014, the Homefront Trilogy is a trio of military romance novellas about three infantry soldiers settling back into Stateside life after a tough deployment overseas. After watching Sebastian Junger’s excellent film Restrepo (and I can recommend his new film about Syria, although it’s a hard watch) I wanted to write military romance that had military-related conflicts at its center, rather than just a dude in a sexy uniform. The heroes in the Homefront Trilogy struggle with where they fit, if they fit, and who they want to be – and of course the heroines step up to help them figure it all out.

The first novel, Boots on the Ground, will re-release on July 4th, and I’ve temporarily priced it at $0.99 to help readers get hooked on the series! The second and third books will re-release in early August and September, just ahead of Defending Hearts releasing on 19th September.

I really love the Homefront Trilogy, and I hope its re-release will find some new fans, too!
